Latvian Sentiments, 2011

"Latvian Sentiments" is the first CD recorded and published by "Antehed Music" in 2011.

It has received very good reviews in both Latvia and Sweden, and in 2011 the CD was nominated for a Latvian Grammy 2011 in the category "best instrumental, cinema, theatre or jazz recording 2011".

Below is a copy of the CD's info text:

The name "Latvian Sentiments" depicts the idea behind the selection and the arrangements of the music on this CD. It's a personal selection of popular Latvian music from different epochs and genres which I've heard while visiting Latvia. This represents music that has been and still is evoking sentiments among its listeners.

I'm a Swedish musician, arranger and composer who became acquainted with Latvia and my future wife Inese and her family, thanks to a choir trip to Jurmala in the year 2000.

Becoming fascinated by Latvian music, I started arranging songs in different jazz styles for my jazz quartet. This eventually resulted in this motley mixture of old traditional songs and contemporary music. One of my own original songs, “Balade Inesei”, dedicated to my wife Inese, also is included.

I launched the project "Jazz in Latvian" in the year 2009 together with my quartet, and we were invited to participate in the 6th big youth choir concert “Dziedam Jurmala!” in “Dzintaru Koncertzale” in Jurmala, in May 2010. Thanks to this possibility, we were fortunate to meet the Latvian musicians Deniss Pashkevich, Ieva Kerevica and Jolanta Gulbe, who are all participants on this CD. During the autumn of 2010, the recording sessions of “Latvian Sentiments” commenced.

Music unites and brings together people regardless of nationality and origin, something that this CD is an example of. As a listener, we hope that you will appreciate these interpretations of Latvian music and the multicultural journey that this project encompasses.
